As an All-round stage and event technician, you create the desired atmosphere with light, sound and image. You design, create light, image and sound plans. You install the sound equipment, arrange the light show and take care of the image technology.
In consultation with the client, you create the perfect atmosphere in the show. The pressure is high, you often work long days and safety is your top priority. When the audience is there, there is only one thing in the world of stage and event technology: The show must go on.

What am I doing?
After consultation with the client, you translate your creative concept into a technical production plan. Together with the crew, you take care of setting up and operating all sound, lighting and image equipment. As a beginning professional, you can handle various types of theatre spots and lights, microphones, mixing consoles, lighting tables, LED screens, and media servers. Together with the stage manager, you are responsible for the overall picture, with the technology supporting the atmosphere of the production.
What am I making?
You create the atmosphere for a show by translating a creative idea into the right technique. To do this, you draw up lighting, image and sound plans. You are also responsible for rigging and safety. You will put this into practice during your studies at festivals and concerts such as Festival Circulo and Rowen Heze’s final concert. You will work in small theatres but also join the production of large events. Stage and event technology students have also participated in GLOW with the Rainbow project. What am I learning?
You will develop skills in lighting, sound and visual engineering, rigging, electrical engineering and projection mapping techniques. You will learn to research, experiment and visualise, prepare a technical production step by step and work with software such as Vectorworks, Capture, WYSIWYG, Cuelux, MagicQ, GrandMA 3D, DAW software (Studio One, Audition), Resolume, Madmapper, Arkaos and NovastarLCT. In addition, you can obtain the BMT certificate (Operational Mechanic Draughtsman). Of course, general subjects such as Dutch, English, maths and citizenship are also part of the programme.
During the programme, you will have plenty of opportunity to gain practical experience during SintLucas events and external clients. You can also work on your own projects, for instance from the theatre where you work or with the band you play in. You also work together with students from other courses within and outside SintLucas, including the Rock City Institute and the Metal Factory. With this personal learning route, you build your own portfolio. An important added value of the SintLucas light and sound study programme.
Where do I do my internship?
Where you intern will depend on your interests and learning needs. Think about local theatres, pop stages, national concert centres or rental companies. During the internships, you can broaden or deepen your knowledge in light, sound, image, rigging or work preparation.

What should I be able to do and like?
As an all-round stage and event technician, you like variety. You don’t mind working evenings and weekends and often work long hours. As a real team player, you and the rest of the crew ensure that visitors have an unforgettable experience. You can empathise with the client’s wishes and translate them into a creative and technical plan. You also keep an overview and have an eye for detail. If you come across a problem, you tackle it in a solution-oriented way.
What can I do after SintLucas?
After the stage and event technology course, with the diploma in your pocket, you can work at a production company, in a theatre, at a pop podium, a concert centre or at a rental company. Or you can work as a (freelance) technician and be hired for performances, festivals or concerts. Of course, you can also continue your studies at a university of applied sciences.
How does application and admission work?
You apply from 31 October 2025 (09.00) via our website for the programme of your choice. After your application, you will receive an invitation for a matching interview at SintLucas. During an interview with a teacher and student from the study programme of your choice, we will check together whether you and SintLucas are a match. Above all, we have an open and relaxed conversation, so you can make a good study choice. In preparation for the interview, you can bring (creative) work with you. It is also possible to make an assignment. After the interview, you will receive a study advice. This advice can be positive (we think you fit in with SintLucas and the study programme) or negative (we think another school and study programme would suit you better). Student: Meric: “I think the All-round media maker course is really super fun. In the first year of study, we are mainly involved in designing and making posters, packaging and flyers. We also learn a lot about typography and colour profiles. We work a lot in Adobe programmes such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Ater Effects. Also, the atmosphere at this course is very good not only among students but also with the teachers.”

Student Mara: “We get mostly practical lessons, such as operating lights, sound and video, but we also learn to make power calculations and work with drawing programmes. I myself use many tools like Photoshop and Premiere Pro for creating content that is projected during a show. We do a lot of external projects which I think is a fun and educational way to apply our knowledge in practice.”
